Course Outline

Arizona is subject to monsoon activity anytime in the summer and into the early fall hunting season. Do not camp in a wash of any kind at any time. Do not camp where a raging monsoon torrent of water could flow over wash banks and flood your campsite or cut off your ability to evacuate your campsite with your camping tent, trailer or equipment.

Watching the weather is recommended and helpful to determine the likelihood of monsoon activity. That said, monsoons can cook up very quickly and monsoon rains miles away can bring disaster downstream rapidly. Avoid tragedy by staying out of washes during monsoon season.

Lightning can be a factor during monsoon season as well. Camping along ridge tops is not recommended during periods of heavy lightning activity.
