Course Outline

Look for a dry, well drained area protected from the elements, such as an area protected by a rock overhang or a thick stand of vegetation. If there is no natural shelter available, find an area with materials where you can build a lean-to or hut.

Depending upon the time of the year, it may be necessary to find a shelter that will keep you from the sun. It is important to minimize water loss and regulate body temperature by staying out of the sun as much as possible.
