Course Outline

In humans, the symptoms of tularemia are identical to the common cold or flu. People—especially small game hunters who have recently harvested or handled small animals, such as cottontail—should be aware of these symptoms. Tularemia has not been known to spread from person to person. General symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea
  • Muscle aches and joint pain
  • Dry cough
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • There may also be an open sore that is slow to heal.
