Course Outline

  • Reduce the number of wild animals in your area by reducing the number of available food sources (garbage, pet food, etc.).
  • Do not approach wild animals, especially those that appear sick, aggressive or apathetic about your presence.
  • Keep pets away from wild animals. Keep pets current on rabies vaccinations. Wear latex/nitrile gloves when handling dead carcasses.
  • Wildlife such as bats, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and skunks can carry rabies. Domestic animals such as cats, dogs and ferrets can carry the virus.
  • Seek immediate care if you are bitten by any animal or exposed to an animal suspected of having rabies.

To report dead wildlife, please call the Wildlife Disease Hotline at 877-972-8426. Wildlife health personnel will respond Monday through Friday during normal business hours. If you have a wildlife-related emergency, please call our 24-hour dispatch center at 623-236-7201. If the animal you are calling about has been shot and you are reporting possible illegal activity, call Operation Game Thief at 800-352-0700. If you have been bitten by any animal, seek immediate care or call 911.
