Course Outline

There are two effective methods hunters can use that will reduce the amount of lead they are putting into the food stream and thereby improve the health of entire ecosystems.

Choose non-lead bullets.

  • These bullets are very effective for hunting, without the negative unintended side effects such as lead poisoning.
  • When hunters use non-lead ammunition, they are eliminating the potential for lead poisoning through the entirety of the food chain.

Remove the entire carcass...

...from the field including the gut pile, hide, meat and bones.

  • This is a good option for hunters who decide to use a traditional lead-based ammunition. This, however, can be difficult especially in cases of large ungulates like elk and bison, and doesn’t provide a clean food source for scavengers.
