AZGFD Wildlife Manager talking to hunters in the field

It is important that every hunter be aware of their own hunting ethics and change any ethic that may need to be modified.

As hunting environments are decreased and more nonhunting activities occur on the same land, it is critical for the sport of hunting to remain as a positive image in the public eye. The likelihood of your actions being observed by nonhunters increases every time you go hunting.

Ethics: Moral principles or values that distinguish between right and wrong; they are unwritten rules that society expects to be followed.

Aldo Leopold
“Ethical behavior is doing the right thing when no one else is watching—even when doing the wrong thing is legal.” —Aldo Leopold

Ethics often come into play where the law leaves off or falls short. Every person develops their own ethics. It is important to be aware that a situation or belief in one region may be considered ethical, whereas that same situation or belief may be considered unethical in another region.

Hunting ethics can be grouped into a few categories that will contribute to the continuation of hunting.
