Course Outline

Becoming an educated hunter is about more than safety, it is also about being a responsible, knowledgeable and involved hunter; a hunter who is a good and ethical ambassador of hunting and conservation.

A primary reason behind the Department offering a permanent bonus point for successful completion of either Arizona’s Hunter Education Course or the Ethically Hunting Arizona Course is to incentivize Arizona hunters to complete education training that allows you to reap the benefits of hunter education — creating safer hunters, reducing the potential for hunting incidents and ensuring the continuation of the hunting tradition.

The Department shall award one permanent bonus point for each genus upon a person's first graduation from either:

  1. A Department-sanctioned Arizona Game and Fish Department Hunter Education Course completed after January 1, 1980.
  2. The Department’s Ethically Hunting Arizona Course completed after January 1, 2021.

The Ethically Hunting Arizona Course...

...is administered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department's Hunter Education Program.

Hunter Education is not required for anyone 14 years of age or older to hunt in Arizona. Any individual 9 years of age or older may complete a Hunter Education course offered through the Department. To hunt big game, youth under the age of 14 must complete Hunter Education.

Arizona’s Hunter Education courses are youth-focused opportunities that cover key information including conservation, fair chase and hunters’ ethics. Classes are offered in in-person, online and field day formats. Both courses require a hands-on field day and exam. All courses and field days are administered by volunteer instructors. For more information, visit www.azgfd.gov/HunterEd.

Instead, this course is designed for adult hunters, targeting Arizona-specific conservation, safety, rules and regulations. We hope this targeted course expands your knowledge by diving into more complex concepts than our Hunter Education course and acts as a starting point for continued learning.
