Wyoming Game and Fish Commission

The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission was created in 1921. The purpose of the commission is to coordinate all efforts related to managing the state’s wildlife.

• The original commission consisted of the governor, the secretary of state, the state auditor, the game and fish commissioner appointed by the governor, and the assistant commissioner.
• Four years later, the makeup of the commission was changed to six citizens from throughout the state. These commissioners were appointed by the governor for staggered six-year terms. To ensure a balanced commission, no more than three commissioners could be from the same political party.
• There are now seven commissioners, with no more than four from the same political party.
