Transcript for Terrain Review II

Steve: If you chose “All of the above,” you are correct. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, you must take all proper safety precautions while traveling through difficult terrain. One of these safety precautions is dealing with and removing obstructions from your firearm. Almost any type of obstruction, including mud, snow, and dirt, can enter the muzzle and lodge in the barrel. If it is not cleared, it can cause severe damage to your firearm and possible injury if the barrel explodes. While it may be convenient and quick to remove the obstruction with your finger, this is extremely unsafe.

Please note: if you’re unfamiliar with how to disassemble and reassemble your firearm in the field, do not do so. It would be recommended that you make the firearm as safe as possible and return home, then have a knowledgeable hunter or gunsmith help you remove the obstruction. If you are comfortable with your firearm, but do not have a cleaning rod in the field, you can use a stick to clear the obstruction just as our hunter has demonstrated.

Congratulations! You have made it through the Difficult Terrain scenario of Hunt Day 3. You are getting close to finishing your third hunt day. Let’s move on to the fifth scenario.
