Course Outline

In 1996, Arkansas voters passed a ⅛ of 1% Conservation Sales Tax to help the AGFC in its mission of managing fish and wildlife resources.

  • Nature Centers: One of the promises made in 1996 was the construction of nature centers across the state to teach about the outdoors. These centers are an outlet the Education Division uses for hands-on experience and education. Each center focuses on the natural elements and ecosystems found in its region of the state. The nature centers located in Arkansas are:
    • Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center (Fort Smith, AR)
    • Governor Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center (Pine Bluff, AR)
    • Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center (Little Rock, AR)
    • Forrest L. Woods Crowley Ridge Nature Center (Jonesboro, AR)
    • J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center (Springdale, AR)
  • Education Centers: Designed to be part classroom, part museum, and part playground, the education centers help people of all ages better understand their natural surroundings. The education centers located in Arkansas are:
    • Fred Berry Conservation Education Center On Crooked Creek (Yellville, AR)
    • Rick Evans Grandview Prairie Conservation Education Center (Columbus, AR)
    • Ponca Elk Education Center (Ponca, AR)
    • Potlatch Conservation Education Center at Cooks Lake (Casscoe, AR)
