Course Outline

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) was detected in Arkansas’s deer and elk herds in 2016. CWD was first found in Newton County. Testing soon found the disease in several counties in northwest Arkansas.

  • To ensure healthy, productive, and sustainable white-tailed deer and elk populations, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) developed a plan to help slow the spread of this disease. Hunters are an important part of this plan.
  • Using information gained through research and from other CWD-positive states, the AGFC has formulated a best practices approach for hunters in Arkansas. By following a few steps, you can make sure you only eat healthy meat while you also help slow the spread of this disease.
