How do I get my Washington Certification Card?

1. Study and pass the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife–Approved online course.

Study and pass the $24.95 course. Throughout the Washington Hunter Ed Course, you’ll be tested on what you’ve learned.

2. Complete your age-dependent certification requirements.

If you are 9 years or older, after successfully completing the online course, you’ll immediately print out your permanent Certification Card.

If you are under 9 years of age, you’ll immediately print out your proof of online course completion, which you will need to bring with you to the Field Skills Evaluation Course. You need to locate and sign up for the Field Skills Evaluation Course. To sign up, go to http://www.register-ed.com/programs/95.

Remember: Passing the online course does not guarantee you a spot at the Field Skills Evaluation Course.

3. Get your Washington Certification Card.

If you are 9 years or older, you’ll print your permanent Certification Card after successfully passing the course and paying the fee.

If you are under 9 years of age, the Certification Card will be given to you after you complete the Field Skills Evaluation Course.

The Washington Hunter Ed Course is approved and accepted by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Is my Washington Certification Card accepted elsewhere?

All U.S. states, provinces, and other countries that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept the Washington Certification Card. Likewise, Washington will accept Hunter Education certifications that are issued by other jurisdictions that meet official IHEA-USA requirements. (This is known as “reciprocity.”)

Quizzes and/or Exams

I failed a unit quiz. Have I failed the course?

If you fail a unit quiz, you can take it again until you pass. You must score at least 80% on the unit quizzes to pass.

Do I have to take an online exam?

The Certification Exam is the exam you take at the end of the online course. You must score at least 80% on the exam to pass. You have unlimited attempts to pass the exam. If you don’t complete the exam in one session, don’t worry. When you log in later, you will be taken to the first unanswered question of the exam.

About Your Certification

What is the proof of online Washington Hunter Ed Course course completion?

Once you pass and pay for the online course, you will be able to immediately print your proof of online completion and/or request that a PDF be emailed to you.

If you are under 9 years of age, you will need to bring this document with you to your Field Skills Evaluation Course.

What is the permanent Washington Certification Card?

If you are 9 years or older, the Certification Card is proof that you have successfully completed all the hunter education requirements and allows you to legally purchase a hunting license in Washington.

If you are under 9 years of age, you will receive the Certification Card from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife after you successfully complete the Field Skills Evaluation Course.

Replacement of Lost or Damaged Documents

How do I replace my Certification Card if I’ve lost it or it has been damaged?

To replace a lost or destroyed Certification Card, hunters age 9 and older, can log in to the course and print a new one. Hunters age 8 and younger, can order one at https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/requirements/education/duplicate-card.
