You need education to purchase a hunting license in Washington if you were born after Jan. 1, 1972.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Requirements

There is no minimum age requirement to take this online course.

You do not have to be a resident of Washington to take this online course.

After This Course

After passing the online course, students age 9 and older are required to complete the online Virtual Field Day to complete their hunter education certification.

Students age 8 and younger must attend the in-person Field Skills Evaluation for the On-line Course to complete their hunter education certification.

How do I get my Washington Certification Card?

1. Study and pass the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife–Approved online course.

Study and pass the $19.95 course. Throughout the Washington Hunter Ed Course, you’ll be tested on what you’ve learned.

2. Complete the Virtual Field Day or Field Skills Evaluation.

If you are 9 years of age and older, complete the online Virtual Field Day.

If you are 8 years of age and younger, attend the in-person Field Skills Evaluation for the On-line Course .

After passing the online course and the Virtual Field Day or the Field Skills Evaluation for the On-line Course, read the Washington Hunting Regulations on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website.

3. Get your Washington Certification Card.

You’ll receive your permanent Certification Card after successfully completing the Virtual Field Day or in-person Field Skills Evaluation for the On-line Course. The Certification Card will be mailed to you.
