Taking the Tennessee Hunter’s Ed Course

What is the minimum age to obtain the Hunter Education Card?
You must be at least 9 years of age to take the online Tennessee Hunter’s Ed Course.
How long will it take to complete the course?
It typically takes 4–6 hours to go through the online course, excluding quizzes/tests, and any re-studying that you may choose to do.
Do I have to complete the online course all at once?
You may complete the course at your own pace. The course can be completed in one sitting or completed a little at a time over several days.

Course Authority, Recognition, and State Acceptance

Is this course approved by the state of Tennessee?
This course is approved by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Is my Hunter Education Card accepted in other states?
All states and provinces that have mandatory hunter education requirements will accept Tennessee hunter education certifications. Likewise, Tennessee will accept hunter education certifications that are issued by other states and provinces that meet official IHEA-USA requirements. (This is known as “reciprocity.”)

Taking the Tennessee Hunter’s Ed Course, if You Are 21 Years of Age or Older

How much does the online hunter safety course cost? How much does the Hunter Education Card cost?

The online course fee is $24.50. There is no additional charge for the Hunter Education Card.

I failed a unit quiz. Have I failed the course?
You must score at least 80% on the unit quizzes to pass. If you fail, you will be required to repeat the quiz.
What is the Tennessee Final Exam?
The Tennessee Final Exam is the final exam you take at the end of the course. After reviewing all units, you must take and pass the Tennessee Final Exam covering all the course material. You must score at least 80% on the Tennessee Final Exam to pass. You have unlimited attempts to pass the Tennessee Final Exam.
What if I fail the Final Exam?
You must score at least 80% on the Final Exam to pass. If you should fail the Tennessee Final Exam, you may immediately take it again.
Do I have to complete the Tennessee Final Exam in one session?
No, you can log out without completing the exam. When you log in later, you will be taken to the first unanswered question of the exam.

What is the Field Day Qualifier Voucher?
The online course certificate is also your Field Day Qualifier Voucher. After completing the course by passing and paying the course fee, you may instantly print out the Field Day Qualifier Voucher, which is valid for 365 days.
What is the TWRA permit?
The TWRA field day exemption type 013 permit is required in order for hunter education students ages 21 and up to complete their Tennessee hunter education requirements. Students are NOT certified upon completion of the online course until they have applied for the TWRA field day exemption type 013 permit. Apply for the TWRA field day permit.
What is the Hunter Education Card?
The Hunter Education Card is proof that you have successfully completed all the hunter education requirements and can purchase a license to legally hunt in the state of Tennessee. After you have completed the course and have applied for a TWRA field day exemption type 013 permit, your permanent Tennessee Hunter Education Card will be mailed to you by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
When will I receive my permanent hunter education card in the mail?
Your Hunter Education Card will be mailed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency after you pass the exam, pay the online course fee, and have applied for a TWRA field day exemption type 013 permit. You are NOT legally certified until you have applied for a TWRA field day exemption type 013 permit.

Username and Password

How do I choose a username?

Sometimes, it can be difficult to find a username that has not already been taken by someone else taking the same course.

Try to pick something that is easy to remember but is also unique. One trick is to use a variation of your name that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to associate with your name. For instance, you could use your middle name and spell it backward. Another way to find a unique username that is easy to remember is to compound your name with a favorite hobby, food, TV show, movie, or a character from a movie or TV show.

I need to change my username and/or password. Where do I do this?
If you need to update your profile information or change your password, click on the View Profile link under your username in the navigation bar at the top of any web page in the course. Re-submit your revised information using the form provided.
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

If you forget your password, you can reset it from the Forgot Your Password? page. You will need to enter your username and the e-mail from your profile, and an e-mail containing the link to reset your password will be sent.

Logging In/Out

Do I have to complete the online course all at once?
You may complete the course at your own pace. The course can be completed in one sitting or completed a little at a time over several days.
I am afraid to log out of the course, but I don’t have all day to take it. Will I lose everything if I log out?
No, when you log out, your progress is recorded so that when you log in again, you can pick up where you left off. When logging back in, you will be taken to the Course Contents page where you can see the progress you have made. You can click on a link for the last page viewed to go back to that part of the course.
How many times may I log in and out?
You may log in and out as many times as you wish. Your progress is monitored and saved.

Troubleshooting

What does the message “Your session has expired due to inactivity” mean?
If you have not been active within the course for more than 15 minutes, you will automatically be logged out of your session. A notice stating, “Your session has expired due to inactivity.” will appear at the top of the course on a yellow background. Log back in, and you can continue interacting with the course. Your progress will have been recorded, and you should be able to continue where you left off in the course.
What happens if I get disconnected from the Internet while taking the course?
If you are disconnected from the Internet, simply log back in and pick up where you left off. Your progress in the course will be saved.
Why aren’t the animations or videos displaying?
If you are unable to view the animations or videos, make sure that Adobe Flash Player is installed on your system.
