In North Carolina, anyone purchasing a hunting license for the first time must show proof of hunter education unless they qualify through an applicable alternative, such as a Hunting Heritage Apprentice Permit or a North Carolina hunting license issued before July 1, 2013. Hunters under 16 do not need a hunting license, but those without hunter education must be accompanied by a properly licensed adult. There is no minimum age to take the course.
