Get CertifiedThe regulations for deer hunting season in Georgia are dependent on the hunting zones and methods one chooses to use. Be sure to check the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) official website for the most reliable information. There are, however, some general guidelines based on typical patterns observed over the years.
Archery, Muzzleloader, and Firearm are the deer hunting seasons practiced In Georgia. Specific dates and bag limits can change each year, but Archery season in Georgia typically begins in mid-September and extends through early January. Muzzleloader season follows, running from late October to early January. Firearm season often includes multiple periods, including a weeklong “either-sex” season and several “antlerless-only” days.
Deer hunters in Georgia will find the most success during the rutting season, usually from late October to early December. Bucks actively seek mates during this time, increasing deer activity and making it an opportune period for hunters.
Georgia law states that any person born on or after January 1, 1961, must complete a hunter’s education course before they can purchase a hunting license. Some exceptions may apply, however, such as hunting under the direct supervision of an already licensed hunter. Regulations are always changing, and it's advisable to confirm current hunter education requirements with the WRD or from the official Georgia DNR website.
