How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

1. Complete the Georgia hunter education certification requirements.
2. Choose the correct license type.
3. Buy the license through the Georgia Department of Natural Resources website or a Georgia–approved agent.

Types of Georgia Hunting Licenses

Georgia Resident

A resident is a person who has lived in Georgia for at least three months. Out-of-state college students living in Georgia and active-duty military members and their dependents are considered residents.

All Georgia residents ages 16 to 64 must have a resident hunting license. Additional licenses may be required. Visit the Georgia Department of Natural Resources website for more details.

Non-Resident

All non-resident hunters and landowners must have a non-resident hunting license. An exception is made for a person under 16 years of age hunting small game. Additional licenses may be required. Visit the Georgia Department of Natural Resources website for more details.

Youth Hunting License

Georgia residents age 15 or under are not required to have a hunting license. However, they must be under adult supervision. Visit the Georgia Department of Natural Resources website for more details.

All non-residents must have a hunting license except for non-residents age 15 or under who are hunting small game.

Senior Hunting License

Georgia residents age 65 or older are eligible for the free Honorary Lifetime Sportsman’s License.

Disability License

Georgia residents who are permanently and totally disabled may be eligible for the free Three-Year Resident Disability Hunting and Fishing License. It must be renewed every three years.

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are stationed in Georgia may purchase a resident hunting license.

The free One-Time Veteran’s Hunting and Fishing License is available for resident veterans who were on active duty for 90 or more days and were honorably discharged after July 1, 2015. Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

License Expiration

Hunting licenses are good for 12 months from the date of purchase. Georgia residents are able to purchase a lifetime hunting license.
