When carrying or passing a firearm, you should:

  1. Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  2. Keep your hands clear of the trigger. This minimises the risk of unintended discharge.
  3. Open the action, and check the chamber.
  4. Remove any cartridges from the breech (if present).
  5. Remove the magazine (if possible).
  6. Leave the action open or broken, and insert a firearms safety flag.

When you hand a firearm to somebody, it is polite to show them the opened action. This allows them to see for themselves that the firearm is unloaded. Never rely on the assurances of others. Always check the firearm yourself, each and every time.
