To summarize, trappers can minimize problems that might occur from using cable devices by:

  • Properly securing the cable devices
  • Checking the cable devices daily, preferably in the morning
  • Removing cable devices when the set is abandoned or the season closes
  • Setting cable restraints on land in a way that avoids entanglement
  • Choosing set locations away from areas with a lot of human traffic to minimize the visibility of cable devices and other trapping activities
  • Avoiding the capture of domestic animals and livestock
  • Respecting the rights of landowners
  • Removing captured animals promptly by dispatching target animals or releasing non-target animals
