Course Outline

The future of trapping depends on public acceptance.

  • The use of regulated trapping for commercial uses (furs and other products) and wildlife management is largely controlled by the public. These are people who often have little or no exposure to the benefits, effectiveness, and humaneness of modern trapping techniques. Some members of the public may develop a negative perception of trapping in general and, more specifically, of trapping with cable devices.
  • Trappers should take care to use cable devices and other traps in a responsible manner. By using cable devices wisely, minimizing problems, and behaving ethically, trappers can continue to protect a valuable wildlife management tool and ensure that trapping remains a legal, positive outdoor activity.
Non-hunters can be influenced by hunters' positive actions.
