Locations that work well for capturing beavers and river otters are bodies of water with target animal activity, including dens, dams, or surrounding flooded areas.

  • Water sets work both for snares and for cable restraints set in water.
  • Constrictions in waterways between larger bodies of water, called runs, often provide ideal locations for beaver and river otter sets.
  • In Pennsylvania, sets may not be made within 15 feet of a dam or lodge. However, it is legal to make sets near underwater bank dens.
