Course Outline

Trapping foxes can be also rewarding, but foxes are also like coyotes, with keen senses and general wariness.

  • Areas that contain foxes and possible set locations should be determined well before the trapping seasons. These sites should be prepared in a way similar to coyote sets, although foxes may tend to use different types of habitats. As with coyotes, a primary pre-season focus should be on removing sources of entanglement and creating brush fences, if necessary, to direct the fox to the cable restraint.
  • Because foxes have a keen sense of smell, care should be taken to minimize any scent by:
    • Storing cables outside or away from odors and…
    • Using gloves when setting them.
