Course Outline

To complete the basic cable restraint, add either an end swivel or an inline swivel.

  • For an end swivel, follow these steps.
    1. Thread a swivel, followed by a swivel washer, onto the cable.
    2. Install an end stop on the end of the cable, and crimp it with a swaging tool or mallet to complete the restraint.
    3. Attach an identification tag to the swivel or anchor loop of the cable restraint that clearly identifies the trapper as required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
  • For an inline swivel, follow these steps.
    1. Cut a section of cable approximately 24 inches from the end opposite the figure-seven bend.
    2. On one side of the 24-inch cable, place a double ferrule, loop the cable through an inline swivel, and insert it back through the ferrule creating a loop in the cable that contains one end of the swivel. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
    3. Insert the other end of the 24-inch cable into another double ferrule, and return back through, creating a loop in the cable. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
    4. Insert the end of the cable restraint that is opposite the figure-seven bend into a double ferrule, pass it through the inline swivel, and return it through the double ferrule. Crimp the ferrule with a swaging tool or mallet.
    5. Attach an identification tag to the swivel or anchor loop of the cable restraint that clearly identifies the trapper as required by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
