Finding Trapping Area

Trappers should initially spend the pre-season identifying parcels of land that contain abundant furbearer populations, especially the target species for cable devices—coyotes, foxes, beavers, and river otters.

  • Stopping to talk with farmers, ranchers, landowners, other trappers, and wildlife professionals are all good ways to locate potential parcels.
  • Frequently, farmers and ranchers are important sources of information since they may not only be dealing with damage caused by beavers, river otters, and coyotes, but they also often own land where they will readily give you permission to set your cable devices.
