Transcript for Pheasant Hunt Review

Amber: If you chose “All of the above," you are correct. Our hunter did not take the appropriate safety steps in this scenario. His firearm was still loaded, the safety was not on, and he had poor muzzle control. Because of this, when he fell, the firearm discharged, and he shot and potentially killed his hunting partner. There are many things that he could have done differently. Let’s take a look at what we would consider a correct fall.

As you can see, our hunter corrected his fall by having two hands on his firearm, covered the trigger guard, and was aware of the direction of his muzzle. The result is our hunter controlled the direction of his muzzle and fell in a safe manner. He then opens the action, removes any ammunition, and checks his firearm for any obstructions before moving on.

In a perfect world, our hunter would’ve been mindful of the terrain and avoided the fall altogether. However, slips and falls are hazards that we all need to be aware of. Remember, you are responsible for firearm safety. Always maintain control of your firearm and have proper muzzle control. This will protect you and your hunting partners, and you’ll enjoy a safe day in the field.

Congratulations! You have made it through the final scenario and have now completed your first hunt day.
