Appropriate temperature ranges for prescribed burning operations vary with the season. In general, higher temperatures are harder on personnel, especially for summer burns. Summer burns will also cause higher soil temperatures that may result in plant root damage. Remember that temperature and relative humidity are inversely related – as temperature rises, relative humidity declines and fires become more intense.
