Course Outline

The following pieces of equipment should also be carried on the fireline:

  • Headlamps or flashlights – Lights should be carried whenever there is a possibility that operations may go later than sundown.
  • Radios – Sufficient radios should be distributed among crews so that every person is within earshot of a radio. A radio test should be conducted to verify working order and frequency of all radios.
  • Drinking water – Water should be readily available to all personnel to avoid dehydration and heat related illnesses.
  • Other personal gear – For extended operations, a small day pack with water, food, extra batteries, headlamp, etc., may be warranted.
