Course Outline

Winds can be significantly affected by the terrain. A tree-lined field border can cause the wind to deflect or eddy and shift directions from the prevailing wind. Steep slopes or bluffs can similarly shift wind direction in the immediate area. Valleys and draws can funnel winds, increasing their speed and changing their direction to follow the contours. Watch your upper smoke column to find true wind direction.
