Course Outline

Once primary firebreaks are located and installed, it is important to look at a bigger picture than just the burn unit to locate contingency lines. Contingency lines are locations where secondary control measures can be taken if the prescribed burn escapes the primary control lines. Roads, green fields, streams and crop fields are possible options. Contingency lines should be marked on the burn plan map.
