Course Outline

The energy released during combustion is held in the fuel. Fuels of natural cover fires consist of leaves, grass, twigs and branches. Most natural fuels ignite between 400° F and 500° F, but this is greatly affected by the moisture content and size of the fuel. Because of their impact on fire behavior, fuels are covered in more detail in the section on fire behavior.
