Course Outline

Local land surface features make up the terrain. Features such as creeks, rock outcrops, ridges and tree lines can cause access problems and affect fire behavior. Ridges, road grades, trees and drainages alter local wind patterns by causing eddies and changes in wind direction. Some of these features also form natural firebreaks which can be to your advantage when planning a prescribed burn.
