When hunting upland game birds—including gray partridge, pheasant, quail, and ruffed grouse—Iowa regulations require hunters to wear at least one item that is at least 50% blaze orange.

The legal methods you may use while hunting depend on the game species and are designed to ensure that your weapon can deliver a clean kill. Always follow the requirements for the type of weapon, ammunition, and any accessories you use.

Before you go hunting, make sure you know Iowa’s hunting regulations regarding restrictions on shooting, transporting firearms, trespassing, hunting near buildings, ATV/ORV use, baiting, use of communication devices, hunting with artificial light, and the retrieval and waste of game. If requested, you must show your hunting permit to any person or officer who enforces game laws and regulations.
