Trapper setting a trap for beaver

Early planning and preparation help make for a successful trapping season.

First, you must find a place to trap. The place you choose affects how successful you will be. Look for a place where it is unlikely that:

  • The animal will get tangled in brush, fences, etc.
  • Objects will keep the trap system from working correctly
  • You will catch non-target animals
  • Humans or domestic animals will come close to the trap

Trapping locations are available on both public and private lands.
