Official Idaho Hunter Education Course

About the Course and Hunting License Requirements

STOP!  Read this before proceeding!  You must complete the Online Hunter Safety Course BEFORE registering for a Field Day.  You will need your Online Hunter Safety Course exam completion certificate number to register for a Field Day.  Field Days can fill quickly and completion of this online course does not guarantee you a spot at a Field Day. Please check on availability and register for a Field Day immediately upon successful completion of the Online Hunter Safety Course.

The Today's Hunter course on hunter safety is the official online course of Idaho Fish and Game. You can complete the course for hunting safety pre-certification to comply with Idaho hunting education law, or just take the online Idaho hunter education course to improve your hunting knowledge.

Completion of an approved hunter education course is required for anyone born on or after January 1, 1975, in order to purchase an Idaho hunting license. However, an education course is not required if an individual has previously held a valid hunting license in Idaho or any other state.

This online course is recommended for self-motivated students age 14 and older with good reading and comprehension skills who have some firearm and hunting knowledge or experience. However, students 10 years old and older may be tested and certified in this course.

Upon successfully passing the online Pre-Certification Exam, you will be eligible to attend an Idaho Hunter Education Program Independent Study Field Day. To complete your hunter education certification requirements, you must attend a field day and successfully complete the remaining course requirements, which include several hours of field instruction, a range exercise, a live-fire exercise, and the written Idaho Hunter Education Certification Exam.
