Course Overview
This course is required for anyone wishing to trap wolves in Montana.
The goal of this course is to equip trappers with the knowledge and skills to trap wolves ethically, legally, and safely while minimizing impacts on non-target species and supporting wolf management objectives.

- Understand the role of trapping in wolf management and conservation.
- Understand trapping ethics and Montana’s wolf trapping regulations.
- Learn proper equipment use and techniques to avoid non-target captures.
Wolf Trapper Education Course
- Completion of this mandatory Wolf Trapper Education Course is required for all new wolf trappers, regardless of prior trapping experience.
- Upon passing the course, trappers receive a certificate number, which is required to purchase a wolf trapping license. Note: The certificate is valid for life unless Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) updates regulations, requiring recertification, in which case trappers will be notified.
