Course Outline

Shooting hours are the legal hours within a day in which a person can actively hunt a particular species. Specific shooting hours can be found in the South Dakota Hunting and Trapping Handbook.

There are different shooting hour restrictions for different species. For example, pheasants can be hunted only during any day of the legal season from 10:00 a.m. to sunset. In contrast, deer can be hunted during the legal season from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
