Shed hunting provides outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to spend time in nature in the spring and gives them an early look at both wildlife and habitat health.

See the list below to learn how you as a shed hunter can help NDOW with what you see in the field.

Does something look out of place (invasive grasses/plants/weeds)?

  • A group of dead trees
  • Illegal dumping
  • How do the big game animals look?

Are you seeing healthy vibrant animals?

  • Coughing animals or animals that appear sick
  • Lots of young or very few young
  • Dead animals

What are you seeing for small game (rabbits, squirrels, birds)?

  • Lots of small mammals, very few, none, or dead animals
  • An animal you have never seen before (take pictures)

Shed hunters can provide us with important information. If you’re out and about this spring and want to share what you observed or have concerns, please email us at [email protected] or call one of our regional offices. When exploring Nevada, remember to practice ethical and responsible recreation.
