The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Nevada is managed by six BLM Districts: Winnemucca, Elko, Carson City, Battle Mountain, Ely, and Southern Nevada. Shed antler hunting is allowed in all BLM Districts; however, off- highway vehicle (OHV) rules differ from district to district. OHV Area Designations are either Open, Closed, or Limited. It is your responsibility to know which BLM District you are within and what OHV Area Designation rules apply.

Open means that OHV travel can occur everywhere, on and off routes; however, staying on existing routes is encouraged.

Closed means that certain areas or routes may be closed to OHV travel. In all NV BLM Districts Wilderness, many Wilderness Study Areas (WSA) and certain special areas are closed to OHV travel. In areas where travel management has occurred or areas with resource concerns, there may be routes signed as closed or have seasonal closures which means it is closed to OHV travel.

Limited means that there are some forms of limitation. Two common limitations are “limited to existing” routes, which means that OHV travel is to remain on existing routes and “limited to designated” routes, which means BLM has designated which existing routes are open. Other areas or routes could be limited seasonally.
