Course Outline

Crossbows

You should sight-in a crossbow before you go hunting. Begin with identical weight practice points and then switch to broadheads that are identical to what you will use while hunting. For greater stability while sighting-in a crossbow, use a shooting bench or other support.

Crossbow serving position correct

When a crossbow is cocked, the string’s center serving area should be centered on either side of the latch system.

Correct crossbow grip

To shoot a crossbow:

  • Cock the bow manually or with a cocking device.
  • Engage the safety.
  • Place an arrow (bolt) in the cocked crossbow.
  • Hold the crossbow so that the cable cannot pass over your fingers and injure your hand.
  • Aim with a sight system: red dot, scope, or peep.
  • Release the safety.
  • Control your breathing.
  • Squeeze the trigger.
  • Follow through.
