How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

  1. Complete the Florida hunter education certification requirements.
  2. Choose the correct license type.
  3. Buy the license through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website or a Florida–approved retailer.

Types of Florida Hunting Licenses

Florida Resident

A resident is a person who declares Florida as his or her state of residency and has a Florida driver license or ID card. Active-duty military members stationed in Florida and their dependents are considered residents.

All Florida residents ages 16 to 64 must have a resident hunting license. Additional permits may be required to hunt other game species. Visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website for more details.

Non-Resident

All non-residents age 16 or older must have a non-resident hunting license. Additional permits may be required to hunt other game species.

Youth Hunting License

Florida residents and non-residents age 15 or under are not required to have a hunting license. Visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website for more details.

Senior Hunting License

Florida residents age 65 or older are not required to have a hunting license.

Disability License

Florida residents with a certified disability may be eligible for the free Resident Persons with Disabilities Hunting and Fishing License. Visit the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website for more details.

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are stationed in Florida may purchase a resident hunting license. In addition, active-duty military members on leave who are Florida residents but stationed elsewhere are not required to have a hunting license. Their military leave must be 30 days or less.

The reduced-fee Military Gold Sportsman’s License is available to the following.

  • Active-duty military members stationed in Florida
  • Active-duty military members who are residents of Florida but stationed elsewhere
  • Veterans who are residents of Florida

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Florida Waterfowl Permit and the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. Hunters must also have a federal migratory permit and proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

License Expiration

Hunting licenses are good for 12 months from the date of purchase or from an alternate starting date. Florida residents are able to purchase a lifetime hunting license.
