On the Hunt: From License to Harvest
Let’s say you have passed your hunter education course. What do you have to do to go hunting?
- First, you need to decide what you want to hunt and where you want to hunt it.
- Next, purchase a hunting license. Some species such as deer, elk, bear, cougar, and turkey also require you to get a transport tag. Be sure to check with the license dealer or review the Hunting Seasons and Regulations pamphlet to find out what tags may be required.
- Find a place to hunt. Look for public land in the area you want to hunt, purchase an access permit for a particular area, or go meet with landowners and get permission to hunt before the season begins. Go scouting outside of the hunting season to identify habitat and areas where animals might frequent.
