Using Snares in or Near Water

Snares can be used to make underwater or under-ice sets. (You will learn more about making channel sets and baited sets later in the unit). These are drowning systems.

Snares also can be used as live-restraining traps in water. The trap is set in the water but staked on land. This allows the trapped animal to leave the water.
