How Do I Get My State Hunting License?

Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Completion Card in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.

1. Complete the Mississippi hunter education certification requirements.
2. Choose the correct license type.
3. Buy the license through the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website or a Mississippi–approved vendor.

Types of Mississippi Hunting Licenses

Mississippi Resident

A resident is a person whose permanent home is in Mississippi. College students with an ID card from a Mississippi college or university and active-duty military members stationed in Mississippi are considered residents.

All Mississippi residents ages 16 to 64 must have a resident hunting license. Visit the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks website for exemptions.

Non-Resident

All non-residents age 16 or older must have a non-resident hunting license.

Youth Hunting License

Mississippi residents and non-residents under the age of 16 are not required to purchase a hunting license. Residents may voluntarily purchase the Youth Exempt License.

Senior Hunting License

Mississippi residents age 65 or older are not required to purchase a hunting license. They may purchase the reduced-fee Resident Senior Exempt License. This is a lifetime license.

Disability License

Military and Veteran License

Active-duty military members who are stationed in Mississippi may purchase a resident hunting license.

Active-duty military members who are Mississippi residents but stationed elsewhere are not required to have a hunting license while on leave. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Hunter Education requirements apply to military members who meet this military exemption.

Active-duty military members who are non-residents may purchase the Armed Forces 14-Day Hunting/Fishing License.

Resident veterans who have 100% service-connected disability are not required to purchase a hunting license. They may purchase the Disabled Exempt License. This is an annual license.

Migratory Waterfowl Requirements

All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Mississippi Electronic Waterfowl Stamp and the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

License Expiration

Hunting licenses are good for one year from the date of purchase. Mississippi residents and non-residents are able to purchase a lifetime hunting license.
