Jared Shaffer: To install your ascender on the rope, you want your rope or the wire on the ascender pointing down so the cam pulls down like this. You’re going to twist it so it breaks open, and then you’re going to lay the rope inside. You’re going to close the two halves and then simply take your carabiner, pass it through the hole, and then as you pull down, it will lock, and as you pull up, it will free slide. So, as you pull down, the cam bites into the rope and stops it.
