Putting on Your Saddle
Different saddle models will vary in style and procedures for wear. Make sure you carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions on how to use your saddle. The following steps are applicable to most hunting saddles.
- Start with the waist belt. Hold it against your waist and buckle it in, adjusting the straps to fit snugly. There should be several inches left of the belt buckle webbing in case you need to adjust further. The proper fit should not be using the full circumference possible of the waist belt.
- Pull the leg loops between your legs and wrap the leg straps around each one. Fasten each leg loop to the hunting saddle buckles on each side. Adjust the straps to ensure that the leg loops fit snugly but do not restrict your movement. If properly tightened, the leg straps can help support you in the event of a fall.
- Ensure the waist belt sits below your rib cage and above the top hip bone.
- If your saddle comes with a harness system, ensure all buckles are secured to the saddle before putting your arms through each side of the harness straps, and adjust to fit snugly on your shoulders. Make sure the straps that secure the harness to the saddle in the back are tightened so that the straps are not loose, creating stable support for your back. Lastly, buckle the chest strap and adjust to fit snugly without constricting your movement or breathing.
