Course Outline

To safely saddle hunt, you are required to use all of the following equipment.

  • Hunting Saddle: Single panel, double panel, or hybrid (expandable panel)
  • Climbing Sticks/Ascending Systems: Climbing sticks, ladder sections, or friction knots (screw-in steps or lineman’s spikes are not recommended)
  • Hunting Platform: Strap-on small platform
  • Ropes: Lineman belt and tree tether
  • Haul Line: Rope long enough and thick enough to retrieve your sporting arm from the ground after climbing

The following equipment is optional and can be added to your climbing system if desired.

  • Platform Pack: A backpack-style pack used to carry a hunting platform and other equipment for a more secure carry during climbing
  • Saddle Pockets: Pockets added to a saddle that allow for easy access to ropes and accessories needed during the hunt
  • Ascenders: Tool used to quickly make length adjustments on your tether and lineman ropes
  • Gear Strap: Used for hanging and positioning backpacks, sporting arms, game calls, etc., while at hunting height
  • Extra Rope: Can be used as a suspension relief device or as a backup for your lineman belt or tether
