Several events related to Wyoming and wildlife management occurred from 1890 to 1899.

  • In 1890, Wyoming became the 44th state.
  • In 1895, the fish commissioner also became the state game warden. Twenty unpaid deputy wardens were appointed throughout the state.
  • In 1899, a separate office of State Game Warden was established. This same year:
    • Funds were made available to pay assistant state wardens $1-$3 for each day of service.
    • The legislature passed a large number of laws concerning wildlife conservation. Many of these laws are still in effect today, over 100 years later.
