Factors That Affect Surplus of Game Animals
You can see in the graph that surplus animals are born each spring in a stable wildlife population. Since each habitat has a fixed carrying capacity, wildlife biologists allow legal hunting so that the surplus animals are killed. In this way, wildlife numbers do not exceed the carrying capacity of the habitat.
Suppose for a minute that hunting were not allowed. What would happen to the surplus wildlife? What will happen to the wildlife habitat if the number of animals continues to grow? Will “Mother Nature” allow wildlife populations to grow unchecked?
Controlled hunting has never made a wildlife population extinct. Hunting and you, the hunter, are tools of modern wildlife management!
