When you are in survival mode, you have five priorities: shelter, fire, signal, water, and food.

Prepare your shelter before dark, if possible. Look for a natural shelter, such as a rock overhang or a thick stand of evergreens. Build a lean-to out of natural materials, but even a large trash bag can provide shelter from the elements.
