How Do I Get My State Hunting License?
Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.
- Complete the Indiana hunter education certification requirements.
- Choose the correct license type.
- Buy the license through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website or an Indiana–approved retailer.
Types of Indiana Hunting Licenses
A resident is a person who has lived in Indiana for at least 60 days.
All Indiana residents must have a resident hunting license. Visit the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website for details on exemptions.
All non-residents must have a non-resident hunting license. Visit the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website for details on exemptions.
Youth Hunting License
Indiana residents and non-residents age 17 or under may purchase a youth hunting license. Non-residents age 17 or under may purchase a resident youth hunting license if a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian is an Indiana resident.
Senior Hunting License
Indiana does not offer a hunting license specifically for senior citizens.
Hunters with disabilities must have a current hunting license. They may be eligible for the Persons With a Disability Special Hunting Permit. Contact the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for more details.
Military and Veteran License
Active-duty military members who are stationed in Indiana may purchase a resident hunting license. In addition, active-duty military members who are Indiana residents but stationed elsewhere are not required to have a hunting license while on leave.
Resident veterans with a documented service-connected disability may be eligible for the Disabled Veterans’ (DAV) License. Visit the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website for details.
Migratory Waterfowl Requirements
All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. All hunters must purchase the Indiana Waterfowl Stamp to hunt ducks and geese. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).
Hunting licenses are good from April 1 to March 31 of the next year.
