How Do I Get My State Hunting License?
Depending on your age, you may be required to have the Hunter Education Certificate in order to legally buy a license or permit to hunt.
- Complete the Delaware hunter education certification requirements.
- Choose the correct license type.
- Buy the license through the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife website or a Delaware–approved retailer.
Types of Delaware Hunting Licenses
A resident is a person who has lived in Delaware for at least one year. Active-duty military members stationed in Delaware are considered residents.
All Delaware residents ages 13 to 64 must have a resident hunting license.
All non-residents age 13 or older must have a non-resident hunting license.
Youth Hunting License
Delaware residents and non-residents under the age of 13 may hunt without a license. They must obtain a License Exempt Number (LEN), and they must be accompanied by a licensed person.
Delaware residents and non-residents ages 13 to 15 must have a junior hunting license.
Senior Hunting License
Delaware residents age 65 or older are not required to have a hunting license.
Hunters with disabilities must obtain a disabled hunter certification card. This card allows them to use the facilities and participate in the opportunities that Delaware offers.
Military and Veteran License
Active-duty military members who are stationed in Delaware may purchase a resident hunting license.
Within the first 12 months after being honorably discharged, veterans who are residents of Delaware may apply for the free Delaware Resident Military One Time Hunting License. They must have served for 90 or more days on active military duty.
Resident veterans with 60% or more service-connected disability are eligible for the free Delaware Disabled Veterans Hunting License. Visit the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife website for more details.
Migratory Waterfowl Requirements
All hunters age 16 or older must purchase the Delaware Migratory Waterfowl Stamp and the Federal Duck Stamp when hunting migratory waterfowl. In addition, hunters are required to have proof of their participation in the Harvest Information Program (HIP).
Hunting licenses are good from July 1 through June 30 of the next year.
